Website SEO

Yes that’s right, as the title says this is our view and our view only on the subject that seems to be getting blown out of proportion these days SEO (search engine optimisation). A few years back when the likes of Google and Yahoo was being drafted up in somebody’s back yard or bedroom web designers concentrated on building clean looking functional working websites, fast forward a few years and now we see people plastering web pages full of rubbish as they have been advised that’s what search engines like to see. Heaven forbid I bet if Google announced that if you paste an image on your home page of you in a large bumble bee outfit fancy dress shops would have a booming sales in crazy bumble bee outfits, not to mention the hideous images all over peoples websites!

I suppose what we’re trying to say is all the common sense seems to have gone out the window with people trying all sorts of black hat tricks or loading pages up with words that mean no sense at the bottom of every web page. Also there appears to be a crazy amount of people claiming to be “SEO Experts” what exactly does this mean? SEO is not like some ancient martial art that has not changed for thousands of years, SEO techniques are constantly changing. These so called SEO Experts are popping up all over the place dishing out comments and criticism of peoples work claiming it’s been done wrong. “Wrong we ask” since when has there been a “Right” or “Wrong” way published or where are the rules set in stone? there isn’t any rules that’s why.

OK, imagine this scenario you are painting the kitchen wall with a brush the neighbour pops over for a cup of coffee and sees you painting with a brush, the neighbour comments “you know, that would be much easier with a roller” then promptly tells the rest of the street you are painting the kitchen wrong! The moral of the story; there is more than one way to paint the kitchen wall and none of them are right or wrong.

We’ve heard “so called people in the know” coming out with all sorts of things, it’s amazing how all the best SEO advice seems to come from friends of friends possibly the best one has to be “Search engines ignore websites constructed in tables instead of Div tags” funny, we still have websites with good ranking positions that have been constructed in tables! Ah I know perhaps if we reconstructed the site using Div tags it would get a better position, Oh but hang on it’s already on the first listing. Surely we must have it wrong because my friends son told me websites constructed with tables are a “No Go” with search engines. I think you’re getting the idea, ok we did throw a little sarcasm in there, but that story is true.

SEO Does Not Mean Guaranteed Sales! Another trap people fall into is that they assume by having a high presence in search engines it will automatically ring the phone red hot with sales or boost a companies turnover. This again is not the case, SEO friendly sites is exactly that; friendly to search engines meaning you stand more chance of coming up on a search. You will need to be committed and in it for the long term to see results from SEO there are no fly by night tricks or tips, we’ve known it to take a year in some cases to gain weight and credibility in search engines.

It’s time to wrap up my little rant but If after reading this your still interested in making a website search engine friendly then we can bring a lot of experience to your door and we would love to work with you. If however your looking for a quick result or a get rich quick scheme then I’m afraid you may be at the wrong place why don’t you have a word with the chap standing at the jukebox in your local public house on a Friday night, I’m sure he’ll do a terrific job!  [See main site]
